Workforce and Education
The Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to developing a qualified workforce for Limestone County and this begins with education. The Chamber aims to encourage workforce preparedness through collaboration with strategic education partnerships and advocating student workforce awareness at every level of education.
Workforce and Education Activities:
Partners In Education
The Partners in Education program was established to provide our area businesses an opportunity to support our local schools through community service and service project orientated tasks. Participating Chamber Member businesses are partnered with a school in Athens City, Limestone County, or area private institution and help by providing their time, resources and staff with hands-on activities at their partner school. The program also provides educational opportunities for the students to increase their knowledge of area businesses and industries.
The Job Shadowing Program is open to Junior and Senior students enrolled with Athens City Schools, Limestone County Schools, and area private schools. The Job Shadowing Program was designed to help students begin identifying career interests and to learn about academic, technical and personal skills required in the workplace. Students will learn the connection between school, work, and goals for the future as they observe the daily routine of career professionals.
Career and Workforce Expo
The Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce partners with the Calhoun Community College Tech Prep program, Decatur-Morgan County Chamber, and other Economic Development agencies to sponsor an expo which brings together local employers with the workforce of the future. Each year, over 1000 students from across the area attend the expo to learn more about future employment opportunities and the education path needed to achieve those job opportunities.
State of Education Address
The Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce provides a forum for the Athens City Schools superintendent and the Limestone County Schools superintendent to present The State of the Education Address. Both the city and county school systems use this opportunity to highlight each school system's progress in education and present an annual report regarding the successes and challenges from the previous year and an outlook for the year ahead.
